Acute rhinosinusitis  comprises a variety of pathological conditions in which inflammation of the nasal mucosa and sinuses occurs.

The most common symptoms are:

  • Facial pain or pressure
  • Nasal Congestion
  • Runny nose
  • Loss of smell
  • Cough or congestion

For a simple sinus infection, saline nasal washes should be used to relieve the congestion. If a bacterial infection is detected antibiotics will be prescribed and will be taken for 10-14 days.

Further treatment such as essential oil therapy may be suggested as research indicates that essential oils can:

  • reduce inflammation
  • fight bacteria
  • relieve pain

These effects may help relieve symptoms associated with congestion of sinusitis.
