Diving is as an exciting sport that elevates adrenaline levels, and the diver experiences the magical beauty of the seabed.
In order for the diver to enjoy this sport, it is important that some precautions be taken. Most diving problems can be avoided if the prospective diver is annually screened by an ENT surgeon (EYIASIS, Neuro-otology Department). The anatomical integrity and functionality of the ears, the Eustachian tube, the nasal passages and the nasopharynx will be assessed.
If the prospective diver is found to have the following ailments diving is forbidden.
Acute Ear – Nose – Paranasal Inflammation, Persistent Eustachian Tube blockage, Chronic Otitis Media, Osteoplasty, Meniere’s Disease, Allergic Rhinitis.
Precautionary Measures before a Diving:
- Decongestant nasal spray
- Systematic administration of decongestants
- Valsalva Maneuver
- Descent with Feet first
